How medical massage supports recovery

Medical massage targets the muscles and soft tissue injured in a crash, fall, or work injury. It can ease muscle spasm and stiffness, improve circulation, and complement chiropractic care and physical therapy — helping you get more out of your overall plan.

When a knot will not release with hands-on work alone, a trigger point injection can be considered to quiet the muscle so the soft-tissue work can continue.

Conditions it often helps

  • Whiplash and neck tension
  • Back muscle strain and stiffness
  • Soft-tissue sprains and reduced mobility

Medical massage FAQ

Is massage covered by No-Fault or Workers’ Comp?

When it’s a medically necessary, prescribed part of your accident or work-injury treatment, it’s billed to your coverage, so eligible visits are typically $0 out of pocket.

How is medical massage different from a spa massage?

It’s directed by your treatment plan and targets specific injured areas to support recovery.

Do I need a prescription for medical massage?

Medical massage is delivered as part of a treatment plan, so it follows an evaluation establishing that it is medically necessary for your injury. That same evaluation is what allows the visits to be billed to your No-Fault or Workers’ Comp claim. You do not need to arrive with paperwork — the assessment happens at your first visit.

Should I have massage right after an accident?

Timing depends on what was injured. Acutely inflamed or unstable tissue is treated gently or left alone at first, which is why massage follows an examination rather than preceding one. Introduced at the right stage it can ease muscle spasm and stiffness and help you get more out of your therapy visits.

How does massage work alongside my other treatment?

It is used to make the rest of the plan more effective — reducing muscle guarding and improving circulation so that chiropractic care and physical therapy can restore motion and strength. Sessions are scheduled around your therapy visits and target the specific areas identified in your evaluation.
