What is a no-fault doctor?

A no-fault doctor is a physician who evaluates and treats injuries from a motor-vehicle accident and bills the treatment to your New York No-Fault (PIP) insurance rather than to you. Under New York’s No-Fault law, your own auto policy covers necessary medical care after a crash regardless of who caused the accident — which is why care from an in-network no-fault provider is typically $0 out of pocket for the patient.

At Injury Recovery MD, our Long Island team has treated auto-accident injuries for more than 15 years. We coordinate diagnosis, treatment, and the documentation your insurer and (if you have one) your attorney will need — in one place.

How New York No-Fault works after a car accident

  1. See a doctor promptly. New York requires that you file your No-Fault claim (form NF-2) within 30 days of the accident. Getting examined early both protects your health and keeps your claim valid.
  2. We verify your coverage and open the claim. Bring your auto insurance information and the accident details; our staff handles the No-Fault paperwork.
  3. You get evaluated and treated. Examination, diagnostic imaging if needed, and a treatment plan across the specialties you need.
  4. We bill No-Fault directly. New York No-Fault (PIP) provides up to $50,000 in coverage per person for medical and related expenses, so eligible care is billed to your policy — not to you.

No-Fault coverage applies to medically necessary treatment of accident-related injuries. Coverage details depend on your policy and the facts of your accident.

Each of these steps is covered in more depth in our No-Fault and injury guides, from the 30-day filing window to what happens if a claim is denied.

Injuries we evaluate and treat

Auto-accident forces commonly cause injuries that aren’t obvious right away. We assess and treat:

When to be seen: neck or back pain, stiffness, headaches, numbness or tingling, dizziness, or reduced range of motion after a crash — even if it started days later — should be evaluated.

Coordinated care under one roof

  • Orthopedics — physician evaluation of musculoskeletal & joint injuries
  • Chiropractic care — spine and soft-tissue treatment
  • Physical therapy — guided rehabilitation and recovery
  • Pain management — non-surgical approaches to accident-related pain
  • Diagnostic imaging — on-site digital X-ray for fast, accurate diagnosis

Your first visit

Bring a photo ID, your auto-insurance information, and any accident or police-report details. Your first visit includes a physician evaluation, imaging if indicated, and a personalized treatment plan. Our staff opens your No-Fault claim and explains next steps the same day.

No-fault doctor FAQ

Does No-Fault insurance cover my medical bills after a car accident in NY?

Yes. New York No-Fault (PIP) covers medically necessary treatment of accident-related injuries up to $50,000 per person, regardless of who was at fault, when billed to your auto policy.

How soon do I need to see a doctor after an accident?

As soon as possible. New York requires the No-Fault claim (form NF-2) to be filed within 30 days of the accident, and early evaluation helps document injuries that may not be obvious at first.

Will I pay anything out of pocket?

For care billed to your No-Fault coverage, eligible visits are typically $0 out of pocket. Final coverage depends on your policy and claim.

Do I need a lawyer or a referral to see a no-fault doctor?

No referral is required to be evaluated. You do not need an attorney to receive care; if you are working with one, we coordinate the documentation they request.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

A photo ID, your auto-insurance information, and any accident or police-report details.

What if my pain started a few days after the crash?

That’s common with soft-tissue and whiplash injuries. You should still be evaluated, and as long as you’re within New York’s filing window your No-Fault claim can generally proceed.
